A legend is reborn…

As the 50th birthday celebrations continue for BMW M, the new 2023 BMW M4 CSL is a limited edition M4(only 1,000 units will be produced) that combines old-school racing passion and BMW M’s innovative technology to create the ultimate M car. As a result, the M4 CSL is officially the fastest series-production BMW to lap the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife, achieving a lap time of 7:20.2!

The M4 CSL starts as an M4 Competition but sheds its weight and adds more power to achieve the highly concentrated racing craft of BMW M. The M Carbon full bucket seats and M Carbon ceramic brakes are standard on the M4 CSL to save weight. Other modifications like forged light-alloy wheels, replacing specific components with components made of carbon-fiber-reinforced polymers, and removing the rear seats added up to a 240-pound weight loss for the M4 CSL.

The 3.0-liter BMW M TwinPower Turbo inline-6 cylinder also gets a 40hp power boost bringing it 543hp, and is further modified to perform like a race car with high revs and relentless power delivery. All this power is sent to the rear wheels via the 8-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission with Drivelogic. The transmission is specifically tuned for the M4 CSL and delivers highly sharp shifts matched to the engine’s performance. This powertrain combination takes the M4 CSL just 3.6 seconds to hit 0-60!

The BMW M4 CSL is an homage to the BMW 3.0 CSL, winner of the European Touring Car Championship from 1973 and 1975 to 1979. Developed by BMW Motorsport and introduced in 1972, the 3.0 CSL was a homologation special built to make the BMW 3.0 CS eligible for racing in the ETCC. Today, the CSL designation stands for “Competition, Sport, Lightweight” and signifies high-performance models with high power, aggressively reduced weight, and a track-focused personality.
