2024 BMW i5 All-Electric Sedan

For the first time, the BMW 5 Series is available as a fully-electric vehicle, and you can pre-order it now! Along with the gas engines such as the 530i and 540i, the 5 Series goes all-electric with the BMW i5 eDrive40 and i5 M60 xDrive.

The i5 eDrive40 is your traditional rear-wheel drive BMW but with an electric drive unit at the rear axle that generates 335hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. That goes up to 317 lb-ft when Sport Boost or Launch Control is activated. This motor sends the i5 eDrive40 from 0-60 in 5.7 seconds.

The i5 M60 xDrive, on the other hand, is the top-of-the-line 5 Series available and brings a potent electric motor on top of the hallmark M performance characteristics and design features. Two drive units are placed in each vehicle axle, enabling an electric all-wheel-drive system in the i5 M60 xDrive. This system produces 592hp and 549 lb-ft of torque or 605 lb-ft when M Sport Boost or the M Launch Control is enabled. This setup rockets the i5 M60 from 0-60 in a blistering 3.7 seconds!

The battery in the i5 has a capacity of 84.3 kWh giving the i5 eDrive40 an estimated range of up to 295 miles and 256 miles on the i5 M60 xDrive(based on BMW’s testing following the EPA’s testing standards). For charging, the i5 has Level 2 AC charging up to 11kW. A DC fast charger can charge the i5 at 205 kW, letting drivers top it up from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes.
